  Signs of Spring
Category: Lake Hamilton          Date: 04/07/09

By D. Clay Hays

Winter is fighting the good fight but let the sun shine on Lake Hamilton for a day and lake beings will come out to play! Even if it's still a bit chilly, which it was, you'll definitely see signs of Spring. I submit for proof the following pictorial, all of which were snapped a few days ago on just such an occasion.

Boaters, fishermen, dogs and families all venture out to bask in the warmth of the sun while the opportunity is to be had. Scenes like this played out all around the lake...

  Fishing boats are
  always the first
  vessels you'll see,
  like this boat load
  of what appears to
  be Fathers & Sons
  out for an early
  morning cast.

But all kinds of boats will appear throughout the day, many on their maiden
voyage of the season. It's easy to tell which ones haven't run all winter as
they will often be spitting & sputtering, still trying to cough up that coating of fogging oil. And lots of them will be heading into the nearest marina for their initial fill-up.

All kinds of boats and all kinds of people. Rednecks can be "Lake Rats" too as is evidenced by the image below. Gotta love 'em though, 'cause by God they love their country! (Flag's is a little faded there Bubba, might be time for a new one!)

  Hamilton is a
  very "social"
  lake and it's
  likely you'll run
  across someone
  you know.

  Boating friends
  will often be
  seen pulling
  up for a chat.

Lots of critters come out on days like these too. Birds are singing, fish are jumping and dogs are happy. Here's two of my dogs, Mojo (the big black one) and Ladybug, doing their duty guarding the dock. We welcome our fellow Lake Rats to stop by for a visit but since Mojo is the official greeter, be sure and ask permission to "come aboard". After all, it is his dock.

Not being ones to miss out on a good ray of sunshine, the repitilian critters below shimmied up on the dock next door for a warm afternoon nap. It's quite comical watching them try to get up that skinny board!

And so it begins, another exciting boating season on beautiful Lake Hamilton. I hope you can come and join us soon!
