Clay Hays Since I found no new marine innovations to write about at the 2009 Hot Springs Boat Show, I thought I'd share this news from my "Electric Boats" Google Alert; The Epic 23E, billed as the World's First Electric Hybrid Sports Boat. Epic has yet to release specific information (big secret I'm sure!) but there's a video on YouTube that is a must see! No need to go to YouTube though, I've included it for your viewing pleasure: Now is that cool or what? No indication of speed yet but pulling a wakeboarder should be no problem. If you don't know this; electric motors produce instant torque while an internal combustion engine has to develop RPM's before it makes torque. Which, of course, means burning extra fuel just to get to where the engine can actually pull something. Epic says it will consume 1/2 the fuel their standard boats do and can be fully recharged in only 1 hour! Now we're getting somewhere! I wonder what it costs?
