The First Ever Sixth Annual World's Shortest St.
  Patrick's Day Parade Defends Title
Category: Hot Springs          Date: 02/24/09

By D. Clay Hays

The battlefield is America's shortest streets; the warriors are Leprechauns, Beauty Queens and gaudy green floats. The prize, the spoils of war, the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow is the distinction of hosting The World's Shortest St. Patrick'’s Day Parade!

Hot Springs' title is once again being challenged. This time it's Boulder, Colorado but the Great Leprechaun himself, Steve Arrison of the Hot Springs Advertising and Promotion Commission, assures our worthy foe their efforts will be for naught. He basically said you big'uns line up and you little'uns bunch up, we'll take on all comers! At a boy, Steve.

If you're anywhere in the vicinity of Hot Springs on March 17, do yourself a favor and check out the First Ever Sixth Annual World's Shortest St. Patrick's Day Parade & Pub Crawl. It is a guaranteed good time and by far the craziest parade you've ever seen! Ours takes place on Bridge Street which, according to Ripley's Believe It Or Not, is the shortest street in America that is in daily use. So the whole parade route is a mere 98 feet!

But in those 98 feet you will witness unbelievable sites like a 6'8" Leprechaun, a troop of Elvis impersonators known as the Irish Order of Elvi, Irish Wolfhounds and even Irish Belly Dancers!

This year's celebrity Grand Marshal is John Ratzenberger, you know, the mailman from "Cheers". Festivities kick-off at 6 p.m. and be sure to stick around for the green fireworks display. When the parade ends, the Pub Crawl begins and let me tell you, you haven't had a beer until you've tried a green one!

See you there.................Clay
